Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing or EMDR is an approach to therapy that is evidenced - based and has been proven to work quickly and effectively in treating symptoms related to trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) allowing you to feel relieved and hopeful in a relatively a short period of time.
I am a trained EMDR therapist who strongly believes in the healing power of EMDR. This approach facilitates accessing and processing traumatic memories, negative beliefs about yourself and adverse life experiences that might be causing you to feel anxious and depressed. This modality helps to bring traumatic events to an adaptative resolution and teaches you ways to cope with triggers more effectively.
EMDR therapy combines different elements to maximize treatment effects. It involves attention to the past, present, and future. Focus is given to past disturbing memories and related events as well as to current situations and negative beliefs that might cause distress, helping you to develop the skills and attitudes needed for positive future actions. These different areas are addressed using an eight-phase treatment approach. You can expect that our work together will last for at least 6 sessions depending on the memories and symptoms that you want to alleviate. Our work together will include resource building so that you have the coping strategies you need to manage overwhelming emotions and deal with feelings related to the traumatic experience in a healthy way. Because EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (stimulation of both sides of the brain), memories are reprocessed and stored in the brain appropriately helping alleviate your suffering and discomfort. This approach is safe and effective for adults and children.
