Therapy for Codependency


Codependency is the extreme dependence on another person to satisfy personal needs at an emotional, social, and physical levels, often neglecting ourselves and leading to a disturbance of identity and low self-esteem. It feels like you're lost without the other person and you end up taking on too much responsibility for them and the relationship which can result in enabling the persons negative behaviors and possible addiction. 


A person who struggles with codependency feels extreme amounts of dependence on their loved ones and feels responsible for their feelings and actions. Some of the signs of a codependent person are:

  • Difficulties saying no

  • Poor boundaries

  • Emotional reactivity

  • Feeling compelled to take care of people

  • Need for control

  • Difficulties communicating honestly their feelings

  • Fixating on mistakes

  • Need to be liked by everyone

  • Feeling a need to please

  • Feeling a need to always be in a romantic relationship

  • Denying their own needs, thoughts, and emotions

  • Difficulties with intimacy

  • Fear of abandonment
